Our Story

twisty-foam began in 2019 when three Glasgow educators noticed the same pattern repeating: bright, capable teenagers leaving school with almost no practical knowledge about managing money.

We weren't surprised they couldn't explain compound interest or investment strategies. We were concerned they didn't know how to create a budget, compare bank accounts, or recognize predatory lending.

These aren't advanced financial topics. They're survival skills for modern life. Yet somehow, they weren't being taught consistently or effectively.

So we created something different. Not a boring lecture series or a corporate training module, but an engaging, practical, age-appropriate program that treats financial literacy as what it truly is: a fundamental life skill.

Workshop in progress

Our Philosophy

Financial education shouldn't be intimidating or boring. It should be empowering and relevant.

We believe children learn best when they understand why something matters to them personally. So we don't start with definitions and theory. We start with their goals, their questions, and their real experiences with money.

From there, we build understanding through practice. Children learn by doing, by making choices, by seeing consequences in safe environments where mistakes are just learning opportunities.

We also believe in starting early. The habits children form between seven and fifteen often persist throughout adulthood. Teaching a ten-year-old to save isn't just about that savings account. It's about building a mindset that values planning and delayed gratification.

What Guides Us

  • Practical over theoretical: Every lesson connects to real decisions children make or will soon face.
  • Age-appropriate always: We adapt content and complexity to match developmental readiness.
  • Engaging, never boring: Learning about money should be as interesting as the subject deserves.
  • Evidence-based methods: We use techniques backed by research in education and behavioral economics.
  • Inclusive and accessible: Financial literacy benefits everyone, regardless of background or current knowledge.

Who We Work With

Our programs serve families across Glasgow, from the West End to the Southside, from city center to suburbs. We've worked with children from diverse backgrounds, with varying levels of prior knowledge and different learning styles.

Some parents come to us because their teenager just got their first job and they want to ensure good habits from day one. Others have younger children and want to start building foundational skills early. Some are looking for family-wide learning experiences.

We also partner with schools that recognize the importance of financial literacy and want to integrate it systematically into their curriculum.

Regardless of the starting point, our goal remains the same: give young people the knowledge, skills, and confidence to manage money effectively throughout their lives.

The Team

Our instructors bring together expertise in education, finance, and child development. Each has experience working with young people and a genuine passion for helping them succeed.

We're also parents ourselves. We understand the challenges of teaching children about money in a world that constantly encourages spending. We know how hard it can be to have productive conversations about finance with teenagers. We've been there.

That perspective informs everything we do. Our programs don't just educate children. They support parents in continuing those conversations at home.

Our Commitment

We're committed to being Glasgow's most effective resource for youth financial education. That means continuously improving our programs, staying current with best practices, and measuring outcomes to ensure we're making a real difference.

It also means being accessible and responsive. When you reach out, you'll speak with actual educators, not a call center. When you enroll, you'll get personalized attention, not a one-size-fits-all program.

Financial literacy changes lives. We're here to help your child build that foundation.
